Malai Matar Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese & Green Peas Curry in Creamy Sauce)

‘Matar Paneer’ is very common during winter in most of the houses. This is also similar recipe but with a twist where ingredients are boiled and then ground into smooth creamy paste. Sautéed paneer and peas are cooked in this flavourful and creamy gravy. You can store this ground paste for few days in a container in refrigerator.  It helps in cooking while you a in hurry. Try this recipe; I’m sure you are going to like it.

Ingredients:

  • Paneer or Indian Cottage Cheese – 250 gms
  • Matar or Green Peas – ¾ cup
  • Onion – 1 (Medium)
  • Tomato – 2 (Big)
  • Ginger – 1”
  • Green Chilli – 3-4 nos
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Fresh Cream – 4-5 Tbsp
  • Melon Seeds – 2 Tbsp
  • Cashew – 8-10 nos
  • Clove – 2-3 nos
  • Green Cardamom – 3-4 nos
  • Cinnamon Stick – 1”
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
  • Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder – ½ tsp
  • Refined Vegetable Oil – 4-5 Tbsp
  • Sugar – ½ tsp
  • Salt – To taste

Steps:

  1. In a pan boil 1 cup water. Add onion (diced), tomato (diced), ginger (chopped), green chilli, melon seeds, cashew, clove, cinnamon and green cardamom. Boil for 5-6 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool down completely. Now grind into a smooth paste in a grinder. Keep aside.
  2. Cut the panner into cubes or strips. Heat 2 Tbsp oil in another pan. Add the panner pieces from all sides. Take out from pan and keep aside.
  3. In the same pan add rest of the oil. Now add the ground paste. Cook till oil appears on the sides of the pan.
  4. Now add turmeric powder, kashmiri red chilli powder and coriander powder. Cook till raw smell goes off. If required add a little water.
  5. When oil starts to separate add green peas. Cook for few minutes. Add salt and sugar.
  6. Now slowly add milk and mix everything well. Now add the fried paneer pieces. If required add little water/milk as per your requirement. Cover and cook for 6-8 minutes. Keep the heat on low.
  7. Remove the cover and add garam masala powder.
  8. Transfer Malai Matar Paneer in a serving bowl and garnish with fresh cream and chopped coriander.
  9. Serve with Paratha, roti or ‘Vegetable Pulao’.
