Dalia n Lentil Pulao with Vegetables

This is an one pot meal that I cook quite often when I have to cook for only me. Instead if whole red lentil I use moong dal or green moong or math beans also keeping other ingredients same. Try this protein packed wholesome meal. I’m sure you are going to like it.


  • Dalia or Broken Wheat – 150 gms
  • Whole Red Lentil – 50 gms
  • Onion – 1 (Medium – finely chopped)
  • Ginger – 1½ tsp (Grated)
  • Cumin Seed – ½ tsp
  • Bay Leaf – 2
  • Green Cardamom – 2
  • Cinnamon Stick – 1”
  • Red Whole Chilli – 2
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder – ½ tsp
  • Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder – ½ tsp
  • Mix Vegetables – 1 cup (I have used carrot, beans, potato and cauliflower)
  • Green Chilli – 2-3
  • Oil – 3-4 tsp
  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Salt – To taste


  1. Wash and soak the green whole lentil for atleast 1 hour.
  2. Wash dalia separately. Soak for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai and temper the oil with whole spices. Sauté for few seconds.
  4. Add grated ginger and chopped onion. Sauté till onion turns translucent.
  5. Now add chopped vegetables and lightly sauté them for few minutes.
  6. Add soaked lentil and dalia. Sauté for another few minutes.
  7. Next all powder spices and salt. Mix once again.
  8. Add water double the amount  of lentil and dalia. Add slit green chilli. Cover and cook till al vegetables are cooked through and water dries up.
  9. Remove from heat and add ghee. Cover and give five minutes of standing time.
  10. Serve hot with curd and roasted papad or pickle.
