Malai Methi Matar Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese and Green Pea Curry with Fenugreek Leaves in Rich Creamy Gravy)

Ingredients to serve 4

  • Paneer or Indian Cottage Cheese – 200 gms
  • Fresh Fenugreek Leave – 1 cup (Chopped)
  • Green Peas – ½ cup
  • Onion – 1 (Big)
  • Poppy Seeds – 1 Tbsp
  • Char Magaj or Melon Seeds – 1 Tbsp
  • Ginger Paste – 1 Tbsp
  • Garlic Paste – ½ tsp
  • Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
  • Cashew – 8
  • Fresh Cream – ½ cup
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Coriander Powder – ¾ tsp
  • Green Chilli – 4-5
  • Garam Masala Powder – ½ tsp
  • Sugar – ½ tsp
  • Salt –To Taste
  • Oil – 2 Tbsp
  • Butter – 1 tsp

Steps:

  1. Soak poppy seed, melon seed, cashew nuts in warm water for 30 minutes. Par boil onion. Now in a blender blend all these with green chillis adding a little water.
  2. Steam the green peas and keep aside. Chop fenugreek/methi leaves.
  3. Cut the paneer in desired shape. Heat oil + butter in a pan and shallow fry the paneer pieces. Keep aside.
  4. In the same pan crackle cumin seeds. Now add ginger and garlic paste. Sauté till raw smell goes off.
  5. Next add the ground paste and fry till oil appears on sides.
  6. Now add chopped fenugreek leaves and sauté for another couple of minutes.
  7. Add coriander powder, sugar, salt, green peas and milk. Stir well.
  8. Add paneer pieces and garam masala powder. Cover and cook for 3-5 minutes on low flame. If required add some water.
  9. Remove cover and add fresh cream. Mix very well.
  10. Serve with paratha or rice.
